Family Reunions
Members of the John F. Cowsert family have been getting together for over a hundred and twenty years! That's a long time, and a lot of things have changed since those early days, including the additional participation by family members from all over the country. Generally, there are almost a hundred of us in Junction on reunion weekend!
Family Name
Our documented "Cowsert" history dates back to a 1790's landowner in South Carolina named Andrew "Cousar". His name was closer to the original word, "courser," which means "shoe-er of horses," but it seems that ours isn't the only family with a different spelling. We know of Cousart, Cousar, Cozad, Cowser, Cossat, Cossart, to name just a few! It isn't certain that we're all related, of course, but it's possible. So, anyone with a vaguely similar name and with ancestors who lived in South Carolina near the end of the eighteenth century may just be part of the family. You're welcome to come on out to join us!
